Normerica and CMV Architects worked together on the conceptual and engineering design for an 11,781 sq. ft. timber frame addition to the south lodge near Blue Mountains' Intrawest Village. Normerica also handled the onsite construction, resulting in a dramatic increase in seating capacity by 100% in a beautiful timber frame setting. Extensive renovations to the existing lodge were completed in time for the 2009-2010 ski season.

Normerica is proud to be the supplier for all the timber frame buildings at this exclusive ranch development located in Woody Creek, near Aspen, Colorado. The magnificent riding arena with it’s 96’ clear-span glulam beams, garage and a 7,500 sq.ft. horse stable are all part of this exciting project.

Working with local architects Normerica structurally designed and manufactured the Restaurant, Bar and Auxillary buildings for the centrepiece of this new housing and equestrian development located near Punta Cana, DR. The complex heavy timber roof structures are designed to Miami Dade hurricane standards and cover an area of approximately 10,000 sq.ft. The project also consisted of the structural design and manufacture of magnificent heavy timber roof structures for eight first class stables to house the equestrian communities’ full range of horses. Covering 50,000 sq.ft. of area this project features Douglas Fir glulam rafters and white pine purlins. They are also engineered by Normerica to meet the strict hurricane guidelines of Dade County, Florida.

This 8,822 sq.ft. Normerica Design/Build clubhouse features Normerica’s signature vaulted ceilings, bold, exposed pine posts and beams, structural hammer beam trusses and mortise and tenon joinery. Combined with a huge expanse of windows and doors uniquely designed into two large gables that overlook the golf course, the beauty and warmth of pine timber allow for the easy harmonization of the new building with its natural and historic surroundings.

Structural design, manufacture, and erection of a heavy timber frame addition to the existing clubhouse. Architectural design by MCL Architects of Barrie, Ontario. The building features a 4,100 sq. ft. main clubhouse with soaring cathedral ceilings and a 320 sq. ft. entry portico.

Mid mountain lodge completed in 1995 comprising of a 4,000 sq. ft. full timber frame building designed for 250 lb. snow load. Complete design/build project including architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical installation by Normerica. This very remote location with difficult accessibility required a high level of prefabrication including factory finished acrylic stucco wall panels. Total construction time was three months. Normerica was engaged again in 2017 to design and build a further 4,000 sq. ft expansion of the original lodge that was built over the summer of 2017 and ready for the opening of ski season November 2017.

A Design/Build project in collaboration with Young & Wright Architects ski season, this timber frame structure of 29,427 sq. ft. (13,723 lower and 15,704 main) is built just east of the existing north lodge. The entire main floor is a Douglas fir timber frame with pine cathedral ceilings, enclosed with R-24 wall panels and an exterior finish of wood siding and stone. All 4 elevations have an abundance of windows to allow natural light to flood the interior and provide unobstructed views of the skiers as they traverse down the mountain. The building was designed to easily accommodate future additions, if required. A few years later, a further 768 sq. ft. addition was indeed required which Normerica designed, manufactured, and constructed. This was followed by another Normerica supplied addition of a 1,600 sq. ft. mezzanine a few years after that.

The complete design, manufacture, and installation of 15 timber frame cottages situated on Nutt Lake adjacent to The Diamond ‘In the Ruff’ golf course in the heart of Muskoka. Normerica was hired to project manage the entire construction project. Normerica also constructed a utility building and RBC (Rotating Biological Contractors) superstructure. Normerica-trained technical engineers managed the project from start to finish.

This 50,000 square foot timber frame lodge was the host for the Snowboard and Freestyle Skiing competitions of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Designed on 3 levels, the ground floor accommodates a full ski school and rental complex, ticket sales, washrooms, retail facility, and a cappuccino bar. Level 2, the main floor, includes self-serve restaurant service and seating for approx. 700 skiers and a bistro style service facility seating up to 250 people. Level 3, the loft floor, is a mezzanine style area which hosts overflow dining in peak periods, group or special events, and banquets. The building is enveloped with energy efficient R24 walls and R38 roof systems. The massing is simple and reflects the mountainous character of the site. The roof breaks into large gables at the areas where doors need protection from the falling snow and to provide large windows for natural light.
The exterior is prefinished board and batten with natural stone accents, architecturally detailed concrete columns supporting the deck, powder coated aluminum deck railing and high-quality low E glass Pella wood windows. The building is the central hub for all activities in the park during both the summer and winter seasons.

Just a short walk from the town centre of beautiful Banff, Alberta, nestled amid the majestic splendor of the Rocky Mountains, you’ll find the stunning Buffalo Mountain Lodge. Normerica, working closely with architects from the IBI Group of Calgary, created a unique accommodation design that seamlessly incorporated our world-renowned timber frame system into the ambiance of the existing resort building. The large expansion was composed of 48 luxurious guest accommodation suites with soaring cathedral pine ceilings, Timber Frame porches and connecting walkways. Even working through the harshest winter months, Normerica and its construction crew were able to complete this project on-time and on-budget with minimal disruption to the resort’s regular activities.
